My work is mainly concerned with landscape and the natural environment of plants and wildlife. I want to convey the feel of a particular time, light or season as directly as possible, and so in the first instance I work in watercolour outdoors, in different weathers and seasons from woodlands, moors and mountains, rivers and streams or the seashore, around Britain or on visits abroad, aiming to capture something of the amazing beauty, variety and inspiration to be found in nature. Some work looks at the wider landscape, such as 'Wastwater', while other images focus on the hidden or unnoticed landscape of small plants and miniature life forms such as mosses and lichens. Other recent work explores man-made features which leave traces of the past in the landscape, often in the process of being reclaimed by natural forces, such as henges, stone circles, abbeys and castles. My interpretation aims to be atmospheric, creating an impression of the living subject while remaining true to factual detail
