Characters play parts. The staging for the work is minimal; there is a degree of acting by the sitter when creating the source material. The pictures are then edited/reformed, this often happens on the canvas itself. This is where other elements are added, namely objects from life which are painted in one sitting.
Each painting has its preconceived aims, which are achieved to varying degrees. I archive the films, photos, objects and sketches (source material) along with found materials: I quote from this archive throughout my work. These quotes are usually the elements painted from life directly on to the canvas. They are placed to create a kind of narrative that is coexistent with the initial painting. These have become more important than just visual tools and pointers to the narratives. These elements are becoming increasingly interesting to me and I see them developing into a larger focus of my work.
